12th Edition of Gastro Abu Dhabi International GI Conference 2026 ABOUT THE FACULTY LOCAL FACULTIES BIOGRAPHY Dr. Emad Fayyad is a Board-Certified Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with extensive experience in digestive and liver diseases. His clinical interests include general gastroenterology, hepatology and diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. He has contributed to professional education programmes and scientific meetings in the region, sharing clinical experience in the management of complex gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders. He continues to support multidisciplinary and evidence-based digestive healthcare. Dr. Eyad Alakrad is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with more than two decades of experience and specialist training in the UK and USA. He has particular expertise in gastrointestinal motility disorders, including esophageal and anorectal manometry and pH-impedance studies. His clinical practice also encompasses general and diagnostic endoscopy. He has contributed extensively to specialist gastroenterology education and the development of advanced digestive disease services in the UAE. Dr. Emad Fayyad Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist Medcare, Dubai Dr. Eyad Alakrad Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi Dr. Fatma Alshamsi is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Burjeel Hospital, Abu Dhabi, and a pioneering Emirati physician with over 10 years of clinical experience. She is recognised for her expertise in inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as advanced interventional endoscopy. Trained at the University of Ottawa and McGill University in Canada, she specialises in advanced ERCP, cholangioscopy and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), with particular expertise in pancreaticobiliary disorders and complex gastrointestinal conditions. She is also actively involved in medical education and advancing specialised gastroenterology care. Dr. Fatma Alshamsi Gastroenterologist Burjeel Hospital, UAE Dr. Filippos Georgopoulos is a graduate of University of Crete in Greece since 1990. He completed his Gastroenterology training in 2000 in Athens and he subsequently subspecialized in Interventional and advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy (ERCP) at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in United Kingdom where he also worked as a Consultant up to mid2003-. He became a Fellow of the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (FEBGH) in 2008. Prior to joining Al Zahra Hospital Dr. Georgopoulos worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in a tertiary Hospital in Athens, Greece which was a regional IBD center.
